Jon Porter Plans Isle of Man Trip to Study Internet Gambling
A US congressman is setting out to discover the world of internet gambling first hand. Rep. Jon Porter, a Republican from Nevada, is flying to the Isle of Man where internet gambling reigns supreme.
"Even with the position the House has taken, Internet gambling is not going away," Porter told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "This is a $12 billion business and the bulk is coming from the States. ... I think it should and needs to be regulated."
Porter suggested an extensive study on internet gambling in May and although there were many sponsors for the bill it did not recieve any attention in the House debate on the ban.
"We introduced it very late in the process," Porter said. "I like to believe there are a lot of reasonable folks who still want to get all the facts about Internet gaming."
Porter explains how the purpose of his trip to the Isle of Man is to examine aspects of the internet such as its impact on children.
