If there is one state in the country that still may be in over their heads when it comes to legalized casino and slot gambling, it is the state of Kansas. Having approved four state owned casinos back in 2007, the state still does not have any of them built.

That is just the beginning of Kansas' run into legalized gambling. After three of the four developers chose to pull out of their deals, the state had a chance to revamp their requirements to make them more viable in the current economy. They did not.

Now, the state legislative session is back for 2009 and there is one subject that lawmakers have gone on record as saying they do not want to discuss, gambling. On Wednesday, the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee will consider a gambling Bill involving slots at horse and dog tracks.

That is not the only development involving gambling that the legislators might have to discuss. There are several politicians who would like to introduce legislation to overturn the 2007 law that allows the four state owned casino.

If that law is overturned, it may be a good thing for a state that cannot seem to come to a consensus on how to approach casino expansion. One of the four casinos is in the process of being built, so a law overturning the 2007 legislation would come with some complications.
