Kansas Man Arrested For Running Illegal Coin Gambling Operation
Around the country there has been an ongoing effort to crack down on illegal gambling machines. Raids have been taking place almost weekly somewhere in the nation and the most recent bust came on Tuesday by the Nebraska State Patrol.
This case is slightly different than the others in recent months. Bradley Branaman, from Topeka, Kansas was arrested by authorities for running an operation using coin machines. These machines have no resemblance to slot like games.
The way the coin machines work is players drop coins down a slot. The coin falls on to a tray and pushers move the coin towards the other coins in the tray. If any coins fall off the edge of the tray, they are the players to keep.
Branaman had the machines set where the tray was at a slightly altered position so the odds were always in the houses favor. It is also possible that the coins the customers put in could have fallen into slots that made them go off the beaten path, in which case the house kept the money.
The Nebraska police gave Branaman a chance to stop his operations. They claim to have left several messages at his place of business asking him to take the machines out of Nebraska.
He did not comply with their wishes and when authorities arrested him at his home Tuesday there were eleven of the machines in a rental truck waiting to be drained of their coins. $3,700 in quarters were seized along with gambling records.
