Pennsylvania Slots Decision Coming this Week
Gambling regulators and lawmakers face big decisions this week that should determine whether slot machines start ringing soon in Pennsylvania. Nearly two years after slots were legalized, it remains uncertain when casinos will get a license to operate from the state Gaming Control Board.
The main holdup is a dispute on the gaming board over how to license slots suppliers, or middlemen who sell slots machines to casinos. Board member Jeff Coy of Shippensburg wants to divide the state into two regions for suppliers, and he has pitched his plan as a way to create more businesses and jobs. Board member Kenneth McCabe of suburban Pittsburgh has held out for a single region.
