Largest Sports Gambling Bust In Macau History Takes Place
Macau has built themselves quite a casino gambling empire. They have passed Las Vegas and have become the center of the casino gambling universe.
That did not stop the recent actions of authorities in Macau. The biggest sports gambling bust in their history took place this past week. The operation is thought to be worth $64 million.
Three men were arrested from Macau and another three were arrested from Hong Kong. All of the people arrested were between the ages of 32 and 51. The arrests took place during a raid on Saturday evening.
$41,000 in cash was seized by police in the raid. They also took control of telephones, a shredder, computers, boxes of cigars, and over 200 bottles of red wine. The money that was seized was Hong Kong currency.
Hong Kong is only an hour away from Macau, and the operation is thought to have been running out of Hong Kong. This is the second illegal gambling raid in less than two weeks for police in Macau.
The first one took place right before the Euro 2008 soccer tournament got under way. Two betting slips were seized in that raid. The latest operation was said to have been taking bets on horse racing and football. Mostly Macau and Hong Kong residents were doing the betting.
