Lawmakers Call for Dumping Slot Machine Supplier Mandate

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Two Pittsburgh-area lawmakers want to get rid of a provision in the 2004 law that requires casinos in the state to buy their slot machines from suppliers rather than getting them directly from manufacturers. Pennsylvania is the only state with slot machines that requires the use of such middlemen and there is no real need for them, contend Sen. Jane Orie, R-McCandless, and Rep. Mike Turzai, R-Bradford Woods.

"The use of middlemen does not benefit the state and will simply ensure that politically well-connected individuals profit from the new gambling law," the GOP legislators, both critics of slot machine gambling, said in a statement yesterday. Mr. Turzai said he's trying "to stop influence-peddling and corruption in a process that is ripe for such behavior.

"Legislators who supported the requirement for suppliers, such as House Democratic leader H. William DeWeese of Waynesburg and Sen. Vincent Fumo, D-Philadelphia, claim it will create new jobs in new Pennsylvania-based companies.
