Long Beach Could Get Land-Based Casino
Officials in Long Beach should do everything in their power to cancel next week's non-binding referendum on casino gambling in their city.
The more residents learn about the question on next Tuesday's ballot, the less they should like it.
The question itself - Are you for or against land-based gaming in Long Beach north of Highway 90 across from the harbor? - is the wrong one that residents of Long Beach should be asking themselves. Why should the issue of gaming in the city be limited to one location, presumably to be occupied by one casino operation? If Long Beach residents want to make casino gaming part of their recovery from Katrina, then surely they would prefer to have as many options and alternatives to choose from as possible.
