Lottery Inquiry Nets No Wrongdoing, So Critics Attacking System

It certainly seems like there is a vendetta lying somewhere in Ontario. Critics had asked for an inquiry into a store owner and whether her and her family legally won millions of dollars in the lottery. The investigation was done, and no wrongdoing was found.

Now, critics who were expecting that the couple was going to be found of foul play are scurrying to find answers. The first place they are looking is at the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corp.

"There is a stink there. It's not about one retailer. It's about what has been going on at OLG," said New Democratic Justice critic Peter Kormos. Although the critics claim it is not about just one retailer, the fact is that it was just one retailer that was being investigated.

When that retailer came back clean, the critics had to turn their attention to something else. The lottery system has come under fire before, however. Back in 2001 a man was deprived of his winnings after a lottery retailer switched his ticket.

The man continually complained to the lottery, but was ignored every time. Retailers must go through background checks before they become lottery sellers.

In the case of the couple who cashed all the winning tickets, it was noted by critics that the investigation took a long time before it was even checked into.
