Lawmakers in the state of Maryland are watching as other Northeastern states are expanding their casino gambling options. That has caused these lawmakers to consider alternative gambling options for Maryland.
Governor Martin O'Malley, however, has different ideas. O'Malley claims he has little interest in sparking an expanded casino gambling debate this legislative session. O'Malley is against any such expansion.
Last month, Pennsylvania lawmakers legalized table games at state casinos. The expansion is expected to bring thousands of employment opportunities and millions of dollars in revenue to the state. Pennsylvania is not the only state expanding.
Delaware lawmakers also legalized table games for their casinos. In Delaware, they have now expanded their casino options and legalized sports betting in the past year. Millions of dollars in revenue will be added to the state budget after the expansion takes place.
New York is another state where gambling expansion is occurring. The state, last week, agreed upon a contract for a developer to build a casino at the famous Aqueduct racetrack. Other expansion is planned for New York.
All of the additional casino gambling in the Northeast has made matters even worse for Atlantic City, New Jersey. What was once the gaming capital of the East Coast, is now struggling financially and facing increased competition almost monthly.
