Memphis Dog Track To Add Hundreds of Electronic Games
Southland Park Gaming and Racing might be landing a big victory in its efforts to bring legalized gambling to Memphis with the addition of over 900 electronic games to be added to their dog track.
In March 2005 a law was enacted to allow Southland and Oakland Park thoroughbred race track in Hot Springs to include electronic games of skill, if voters approve.
The voters have spoken and the bill was approved, setting up a huge expansion project for the dog track.
a 30,000 square foot electronic gaming area is bein installed by Southland with more than $40 million in improvements anticipated for the track.
Some of the new construction will include a night club and a mega buffet, which is mandatory if they expect the patrons to sink their money into the machines.
One of the stipulations of the voter approved law is that the machines must have a 83 percent payout in its lifetime.
The proposal for this expansion is to be submitted for approval by August 29th according to Barry Baldwin, the dog track president.
If the proposal is accepted, the dog track hopes to have the machines operating by November.
