John Gotti Jr. has been claiming for years that he has gone legitimate and no longer is associated with the Gambino crime family. Those claims will be of no help to him after he was arrested on Tuesday on charges stemming from his involvement with the family.

Gotti Jr. was arrested on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy including cocaine trafficking and murder. The charges claim that he was part of the Gambino crime family that was involved with extortion, bribery, jury tampering, and illegal gambling.

The murders took place from 1988 to 1981. Although he claims to be out of the mob life, the charges will still apply to him. "They're old crimes but the defense he used the last time, that he resigned from the mob, doesn't work in this case. There's no statute of limitations on murder," said a former federal prosecutor, Randy Mastro.

The charges from the indictment on Tuesday claim that the Gambino family were committing murder and publicly beating and shooting people as a form of intimidation. They were trying to invoke fear.

Gotti Jr. did not get arrested alone. While he was being pulled from his Long Island home, three other residents of New York were also arrested on the same charges. A New York prison inmate and a Tampa resident were also indicted on the latest charges.
