National Gambling Amendment Bill Signed In South Africa
South Africa will soon become the latest country to legalize online gambling. Parliament has already given their approval to the Bill, but they were still waiting on the President to sign it.
That finally happened when Thabo Mbeki signed the Bill into law. It still will be some time before online gambling will begin. They are working on how to implement all of the new legislation in the Bill.
While the United States government continues to let the illegal Internet gambling sites thrive, the rest of the world has moved more diplomatically towards legalizing and regulating the industry.
In South Africa, the Bill that was passed came with some strict guidelines. Advertising control and programs to help keep problem gambling to a minimum are both important regulations that will have to be adhered to by any online gambling site.
Underage gambling is also addressed in the Bill. The South African government went to great lengths to ensure that every base was covered.
Now that the President has signed the Bill into law, all that is left is the implementation of its rules and guidelines. It is still unknown when they will move on to the implementation stage of the Bill.
