New Bill Surfaces To Bring Casino Gambling To Massachusetts

Massachusetts has tried before to bring casinos into the state. each time, however, the idea has been shot down by lawmakers. Still, proponents of the casino gambling have not given up hope.

Senator Joan Menard of Fall River has filed a Bill that again tries to bring casinos to Massachusetts. The Bill is looking for approval to bring two casinos to the state, and also slot machines to the four racetracks in Massachusetts.

"The fact remains many of our residents enjoy gaming and continue to head out of state to do so," said Menard. Her Bill was thought up based on a study that was done showing that a large number of people were traveling out of the state to do their gambling.

The battle will be a spirited one before the casinos gain approval. The Speaker of the House, Salvatore DiMasi, has been a strong opponent of casino gambling, and he has many others on his side.

One person that is not on his side is the governor of the state. Governor Deval Patrick has already tried to get a Bill passed regarding casino gambling last year. The Bill was defeated, and it is not yet known whether or not Patrick will support the new Bill from Menard.

One thing that Menard has on her side is the economy. The recession has caused many states who had previously defeated expanded gambling Bills to reconsider. Massachusetts could be the next in line to do so.
