New Mexico Gambling Casino Fined $7,500
SunRay Park and Casino has been fined $7,500 for failing to inform state officials a top executive had faced criminal charges. The state Gaming Control Board submitted the citation in May after Farmington businessman Bernard Strunk agreed to cut his ties as an executive with SunRay for 5 years. Strunk stepped down from his position at the casino March 30, 2005 two days before a state gaming investigator began researching his 2003 arrest.
The Gaming Control Board looked to revoke Strunk's certification for oversight of the casino June 22, 2005, after he did not notify the state within ten days that he faced criminal charges, state documents show. Strunk had been charged with a fourth-degree felony in connection with the beating of a man in December 2003. He later was convicted of attempted aggravated battery.
The charge recently was taken off Strunk's permanent record after he was granted a conditional discharge for completing 18 months of unsupervised probation, according to court records and his lawyer, Jack Fortner.
