NFL Power Rankings Week Eight: Undefeated Packers Soaring

The Green Bay Packers are so good these days that they do not even need to play to impress. The Packers had their bye last weekend, and they came out of the bye still number one in this week's Power Rankings. Green Bay is the only undefeated team in the league.

The Packers have such a cushion on the top of the NFL standings, that they may even be able to lose a game at this point and still be considered by many to be the best team in the league. After Green Bay, only one other team in the league only has one loss, and that team has risen all the way to number two this week.

San Francisco is not the team most analysts believed would have the second best record in the NFL at the midway mark, but that is where the 49ers sit. Their recent hot streak has them up to number two, and gaining ground on the Pack.

The defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers were blown out on opening day against Baltimore. Since then, the Steelers have gone 6-1, and after an impressive win over New England Sunday, Pittsburgh has moved up to number three. They are followed by AFC North rival Baltimore. The Ravens beat the Steelers head to head, but their loss to Jacksonville and a sloppy performance at home against Arizona has the Ravens looking up at the Steelers. They can change that this week when they go into Pittsburgh Sunday night.

Detroit rebounded from a two game losing streak, and is back in the top five this week. They are followed by Buffalo, the Giants, and New Orleans at six, seven, and eight. The Cincinnati Bengals, who many believed would be among the worst teams in football this season, have cracked the top ten for the first time this year. Their 5-2 record has the Bengals at number nine. Houston closes out the top ten.

Several teams will be looking to get back into the top ten when play resumes this week. The Jets, preseason favorites in the AFC, faces Buffalo, while Tampa Bay tries to defeat New Orleans. Kansas City has won four straight, putting the defending AFC West champs in line for a top ten ranking with another win or two.
