Ohio Gubernatorial Candidate Kasich Toes The Line On Gambling Issue

Republicans in the state of Ohio are starting to realize that residents in the state are changing their minds about casino gambling. What used to be a taboo subject in Ohio is now becoming a popular idea when it comes to raising revenue for the state.

That is, perhaps, why Republican candidate for governor, John Kasich has wavered on his initial gambling stance. he now claims that he has no opinion on whether or not gambling expansion should take place in the state.

"This thing was so terribly put together," said Kasich of Governor Strickland's slot gambling plan for the state, "It's goofy, and it's not even going to produce the numbers they're saying it's going to produce."

After battling the governor on the plan, Kasich now claims he is not opposed to gambling expansion. Of course, his attitude may have changed after a recent poll showed that the majority of voters in Ohio are now in favor of gambling expansion.

"I'm not ideologically opposed to gambling," said Kasich, "I haven't made up my mind on it, but I'm not going to say we're not going to do it and pound my fist on the table. We'll have to see, and that doesn't mean we are going to do it. We'll have to take a really hard look at it."

Being on the bubble about such an important issue to Ohio residents is not a place to be when a politician is looking for voter support. Kasich's comments claiming he would have to take a look at it (gambling) are puzzling considering that studies have already been done, and plans have been shown as to how gambling will effect the state.

If Kasich is being honest, and he really does not have a concrete stance on gambling, he had better do some research and get one. The voters of Ohio are ready for a philosophical change to the way gambling has been viewed, and not having an opinion on the subject will not help his campaign platform.
