Online Gambling Ban Hypocritical By Nature, Some Argue
As expected, Congress is moving forward with their plans to "clarify" gambling laws, which will effectively outlaw playing online poker, and other forms of gambling, even allowing the government to push ISPs to block access to gambling sites.
If the similar law that was recently enacted in Washington State is anything to go by, expect all sorts of seemingly legitimate sites to be forced offline.
It may seem unfair to some to put the burden on ISPs to block these sites. It may cause major problems for ISP's, and the internet in general.
If the gambling sites that ISP's need to ban share servers with other legitimate sites, those legitimate sites will be taken offline as well.
Also noteworthy about the bill, it carves out exceptions for state lotteries and horse racing.
It's unlikely the bill will go anywhere soon, though, as the Senate does not give much weight to this issue.
