Online Gambling Becomes Felony in Washington State
Starting June 7, it will be a Class C felony to play poker online in the state of Washington. Players will face a possible five-year sentence and/or a $10,000 fine. Gov. Christine Gregoire signed the bill into law in late March.
The bill covers all forms of online wagering, including poker. The new law will put violators in the same category as child pornographers, repeat drunken drivers, drug dealers and identity thieves.
One local player said he has an internet poker cash card, tied to a Swiss bank account. He can use it to withdraw his winnings $1,000 at a time at any ATM. He said it is not tracible. "For them to catch me would be pretty tricky," said Rick, an Internet gambler. "I mean I'm not gonna obviously do it from my home IP address."
