Online Gambling Should Not Be Banned, But Regulated
As reported by an editorial from the PressRepublican based out of New York, "As quickly as the issue of Internet gambling appeared on the front pages of daily newspapers across the country, it disappeared. And from what we read these days, it's probably dead.
The reason, from our vantage point, is that the approach taken by the House of Representatives to ban U.S.-based financial institutions from processing online bets missed its intended target. It was fraught with unintended consequences, failed to acknowledge that adults must be responsible for their own bad decisions and would fail to end Internet betting.
The House bill passed overwhelmingly, but the U.S. Senate has shown little interest in taking up the measure this year."
The online newspaper has no definitive source as to whether this is all true, however, coming from a republican newspaper this is a good sign.
They go on to say that "... to ban Internet gambling isn't the solution. In fact, the best way to minimize personal risk and potential harm of online betting would be to make it legal, regulated and taxable."
