Oriental Market Raided For Illegal Gambling In North Carolina
The illegal gambling raids continued around the US on Sunday. In the morning hours, authorities raided the Oriental Market in Burlington, North Carolina, finding counterfeit lottery tickets and other illegal gambling activity.
The raid took place at around 7AM at the store front located on East Maple Avenue. The investigation has been taking place for several months, and during the raid several people were cited.
Police were not surprised to find large amounts of cash as they raided the Oriental Market. The counterfeit lottery tickets were found, and a numbers operation appeared to be running out of the establishment.
"With most of these raids, electronic gambling machines are in use," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "This one was slightly different because instead of illegal video gambling, police found a numbers operation. This type of operation is prevalent in Asian countries but not usually found in the US."
The five people that were cited in the raid are Khan King Lankhamdaeng, Sao Inthavon, Impong Kelavanh, Boua A Nong Phaphonsay, and Impanh Keolavanh. They were all cited for possession of numbers tickets, selling numbers tickets, and Keolavanh and Kelavanh were also cited for gambling.
Police on the East Coast have been busy in the past year seeking out illegal gambling operations. many of these operations have been running out of convenience stores, gas stations, and bars in states such as Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and New York.
