Oxford County Casino Gambling Plan Emerges In Maine

USA Players Accepted at Rome Casino!

Maine residents have already had their say on casino gambling, and they clearly said "no." That answer appears unacceptable for a group of business leaders who are once again drumming up support for a casino in Oxford County.

The group, which is being led by Black Bear Entertainment LLC, is emphasizing the resort end of the deal. They want people to understand that the resort will be the main feature, and not the casino.

"Let me emphasize this point: This isn't a casino that happens to have a resort. This is a four-season resort that happens to have a casino," said Peter Martin, Spokesman for Black Bear Entertainment.

The move to emphasize the resort may be a calculated political ploy. In Maine, residents have voted against casinos twice in the past ten years, and there is little indication that the next time around will be any different.

Maine eventually will have to come around to the idea with many of their neighboring states moving towards legalized casino gambling. The revenue being generated from casino gambling around the US is helping to offset one of the worst economic crisis's ever in the country.

The new offering for the public would consist of a tax rate of forty-six percent on slots and sixteen percent on table games. The education system would receive an estimated $32 million a year from the taxes generated from casino revenue.

The group is starting to collect signatures for the referendum and hopes to have it placed on the ballot in November of next year. Black Bear will have to collect over 55,000 signatures to have the referendum make it on the ballot in 2010.
