Legal Panel to Hear Casino Gambling Plans
Isle of Capri Casinos plans to present details about a $250 million casino proposed for Harrison County to the Mississippi Gaming Commission today. "I met with Isle of Capri this week and looked at the site, and they are on the fast track," said Larry Gregory, executive director of the Gaming Commission.
"They want to be open by December 2008. "The commission is expected to approve the site, which is on the western part of the Bay of St. Louis near Diamondhead. The commission also is expected to approve the development plan, which includes a hotel, pool and spa. There were once environmental issues associated with the site, but those can be overcome by not not building over water, Gregory said. The Legislature last year changed state law to allow casinos to come ashore within 800 feet of where gambling barges are allowed.
