Pederson Happy About Endorsement from Online Gaming Community
The online gambling community's campaign against US Senator Jon Kyl may be signficant, or it may not be, but it at least has Kyl's opponent, Jim Pederson, happy about the unexpected endorsement.
The online gambling community has contributed thousands of dollars to the Pederson campaign in just a little over two weeks.
The reason for the backing of Pederson is because Sen. Jon Kyl sponsored the original version of the Internet Gambling Bill that would have updated the 1961 Wire Act to include internet gambling. His version of the bill was not passed, but another form was and it reinforced some illegalities about internet gambling. Although the bill that passed did nothing to make it illegal for Americans to gamble online, it did force large companies out of the US market and it has enraged the entire gaming community.
A campaign manager for Pederson came up with an interesting twist in order to bring the online gambling issue into the eyes of the more typical Arizona voters. "He spent his time working on online gambling instead of the war in Iraq," he said about Kyl.
Jon Kyl's PR man, Andy Chasin, however dismissed the worries because he thinks gamblers typically are all talk and never come out to vote, at least not on any significant level.
