Pennsylvania Casino Slots Licensing Process Back on Track
After months of setbacks and delays, the chairman of Pennsylvanias Gaming Control Board says he expects the 1st licenses for slots parlors to be issued in late September 2006.
The Gaming Control Board was bogged by delays, the most recent of which was a dispute over regulations governing the suppliers who will act as middlemen between slot machine manufacturers and gambling casinos.
That logjam was broken last month, and now board chairman Tad Decker sees little that could prevent the board from approving the first licenses to slots operators, which will be conditional licenses for the state's horse racing tracks at the end of September.
"I can't look into the crystal ball as much as I'd like to, but no, I don't see anything obvious that's going to delay casino licensing right now."
But Decker says the board has not been getting a clear indication how many tracks will be able to get their slot machine operations up and running quickly.
Decker says the board also plans to hold hearings in the fall with applicants vying for standalone casino gambling licenses. He says those licenses should be approved by the end of the year.
