Pennsylvania Gaming Regulators Contemplate Casino Slots
Pennsylvania State gaming regulators are contemplating a decision to allow new casino-style slots machines at six in-state racetracks. The final vote among the members is scheduled to happen this week.
If the slots machines are approved, people in Pennsylvania can play casino-style slots without commuting to Atlantic City for the first time ever.
Governor Ed Rendell is predicting Pennsylvania slots to rake in about $3 billion a year, allowing the state to cut local taxes and increase public school spending.
If Ed Rendell's revenue predictions are correct, Pennsylvania would become the 3rd-largest gambling state in the nation, behind of course, Nevada and New Jersey, but ahead of Mississippi and Indiana.
Back in July 2004, Pennsylvania passed an amendment that allows up to 60,000 total slot machines in circulation. If that total is reached, Pennsylvania would become the 2nd-largest slots player behind only Nevada.
