Police Raids Continue On Illegal Gambling, This Time In Arkansas
This weekend, law enforcement officials all across the US are showing illegal gambling business owners that the illegal activity will not be tolerated. After arrests early in the weekend in North Carolina and Texas, Arkansas police made their presence known.
The Arcade in the Maple Creek Center in Saline County was the location of a raid that took place shortly after 11PM on Saturday evening. Six of the employees working in the gambling establishment were arrested, and around $15,000 was seized.
The Arcade has been a source of displeasure for residents nearby since it moved into the new location. Complaints were coming in, and a robbery of the gaming hall was what led police to start their investigation. Once they learned that money was being paid out to winners, the authorities moved in.
In Arkansas, children entertainment places are allowed to run slot type games as long as prizes are given out. If the prizes are cash, the machines become illegal, and that is where the Arcade raised eyebrows. In addition to the congestion the gaming hall brought, crime also increased since the Arcade moved in.
The hall had four different rooms, each with gambling machines inside. At the time of the raid, over four dozen people were inside, many of which were questioned about their involvement. Cars of the customers were also searched as part of the operating procedure of the police on the scene.
The Arkansas raid continues a busy weekend for the authorities. In North Carolina, a home poker game was raided on Thursday. Thousands of dollars, poker tables, chips, and surveillance equipment were all seized during the raid. Later, Texas police raided an establishment that was allowing senior citizens and disabled customers to gamble on slot-like machines.
