Pro Internet Gambling Fighters Few and Far Between
Although Calvin Ayre, founder and CEO of Bodog.com, has expressed his desire to continue accepting wagers from US citizens, not much will change because of his position.
However, one online gaming operator, although an infamous one, is requesting the British government and the European Union to come to the defense of the online gambling community.
As many cowardess gambling executives are running away from the US, Nigel Payne, CEO of Sportingbet, is pleaing for support from the British government and the EU.
"If the government doesn't say that this is absurd protectionism, then it's very difficult to carry on," Payne told the BBC. Payne also exclaimed that online gambling operators could easily get around the US bill and still accept wagers from US citizens.
However, Payne's pleas do not seem to be having any effect on the British government. "These are companies that have to make their own business decision based on their own judgment and their own analysis of the legal position of different countries," said Anthony Wright, a spokesman for the U.K. Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
Wright went on to explain that although the UK believes the US is wrong in its decision not to regulate the industry as the UK has done, it is up to the US to decide what their laws will be.
Meanwhile, Mitch Garber, head of PartyGaming, and Gigi Levy, head of 888 Holdings, appear to be anxious to start buying out companies that cannot stand without US players. Party Gaming and 888 are known to insiders as two of the shadiest companies in the gaming world, however outsiders see them as innovative leaders and they are sure to be the only beneficiaries of the US gambling ban.
As only insiders would know, both forementioned companies have a history of providing bad customer support, inept quality software, and deceptive behaviors to both customers and affiliates.
Unfortunately for the industry, they are the two richest companies holding the most power and what they do from now on will determine where the rest of the industry is headed.
