Publicly Traded Aces Wired Dealt Big Blow Involving Gambling Machines
Aces wired is the type of gambling company that the law sometimes overlooks. They are a publicly traded company that has strong political ties. Those ties did not help them, however, in court on Friday.
A jury found that the companies eight liner gambling machines were illegal. Lawyers had fought against this verdict, but in the end the machines were ruled illegal by the jury.
Lawyers for both the company and the state went to court on this issue after law enforcement officials raided the companies eight liner operations. The raids netted over 100 machines and $1 million in cash.
The case immediately became high profile and lawyers for both sides were trying to have a precedent setting outcome that would have defined a gray area in the state gambling laws.
That outcome did not happen. Both sides walked away with the feeling they had won. "We got out of it what we wanted. It reiterates an idea that seems to be popularly slung around these days in political circles: You can't put lipstick on a pig. A sophisticated and technologically complex system for operating gambling devices is still just gambling when it is all said and done.
The company's lawyer claims that this was an isolated instance, and that the verdict today on Friday did not set any precedent. He claims the when an undercover agent was able to redeem his points for cash, it was an isolated instance. He also claims that the company now has safeguards in place to prevent that from happening again.
