Pull Tab Gambling May Give Way To Electronic Machines In ND
The state of North Dakota is looking into the possibility of changing the way that their charitable organizations offer gambling in the future. Currently, the charities offer pull tab gambling, but that is becoming an outdated form that the state may change.
In place of the pull tabs, there is a study taking place to determine whether electronic machines would be more efficient. Several other states have already changed to electronic machines and it has paid off in many ways.
"The pull tabs are just outdated," said CGW Gaming analyst Brad Dawkins, "Electronic machines make more sense because they are easier to keep track of and easier to operate than the pull tabs. The machines would also save North Dakota money in the long run."
North Dakota's legislative Judiciary Committee has been given the task of examining the current system for charitable gambling. They are also faced with the task of giving recommendations on how to change the current system to make it more cost effective and productive.
That study is not due for at least another year. By the legislative sessions of 2011, the results of the study will be available. If, at that time, it is revealed that electronic machines would be a better route for the state, lawmakers will then have the opportunity to change the laws.
Mississippi is one of the states wehre the electronic machines are used in bingo halls. Virginia has also recently changed their laws to allow for the replacement of pull tabs with the machines.
