The Republican party on Thursday announced their Pledge to America, a group of ideas that they will run on in the hopes of gaining a majority in the Senate and House. The party, which has always prided itself of keeping government out of the lives of US citizens, offered ideas that would contradict their mantra.

"We pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of American values," said the party in the document.

In order to uphold that platform, Republicans will have to create laws that are intrusive on individual freedom. "Faith-based" government will be intrusive for those who do not count on religion as a driving force in their lives. These people will have to deal with upcoming laws that will keep religion in schools where their children are taught.

For a long period of time, Republicans have claimed to be against big government. In the past decade, however, many ideas have been brought to the House and senate floors that involve making government larger. Those ideas have come from both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Nowhere in the new agenda did it mention Internet freedom or online gambling. The topic has been a hotly debated issue and Republicans may have steered clear of announcing a stance on an issue in which many of its members of Congress are split. The online gambling issue is one that has been largely bi-partisan.

One idea on the new agenda that could benefit the online gambling industry is a promise to create a system in Congress in which at least three days must be given to members of the chamber to read proposed legislation before it goes to the floor. This will allow formerly uninformed lawmakers as to the positive aspects of bills such as the one proposed by Representative Barney Frank that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
