San Diego Gambling Bust Nets Two Arrests Over Five Locations
If ever there was a gambling bust that did little to scare other operations away, it was in Sand Diego. Authorities raided five different locations for illegal gambling, and came away with two arrests.
San Diego police executed Operation Jackpot, which was to derail illegal gambling machines in the city. Operation Jackpot ended with the police confiscating thirty-one illegal machines, and arresting two people for their involvement in the crime.
Internet cafes have become the popular choice of illegal gambling operations throughout the US. people use their credit cards or cash to buy pre-paid Internet time, and then they use that time on video gambling machines.
"Agents from my office shut down Internet cafes in Stockton and San Diego that are a cover for illegal gaming operations," said Attorney General Jerry Brown, "These are unregulated and illegal gambling parlors, operating Las Vegas-style games in violation of the law."
Agents have been investigating these locations undercover since early June. With their undercover work, they have, to date, found two people to be in violation of the law. Among the establishments raided were a topless bar, a billiard room, and a few Internet cafes.
The authorities claim that the raids are not complete. several sites in San Diego and Oceanside are being investigated for similar illegal gambling operations.
