Shell Game Lands Georgia Men In Jail On Gambling Charges

There has been another gambling related bust in the US. The latest arrests came at the Columbus Civic Center, and they involved a shell game and another card game that were being played illegally.
Five men were arrested on the gambling charges. Dwayne Norwood and Mark Smith were brought in on gambling charges. Andre Bernard, Wanza Harris, and Kenneth Timbers were all charged with commercial gambling.
Officers arrived on the scene after being tipped off to the gambling that was taking place. People that were attending the Albany State-Fort Valley State football game were scammed by the men, and alerted the police to what was taking place.
Upon walking up on the men, the officers found that the different games were being played. They claim that the group of gamblers had been taking money from people all day, and they made the arrests.
This is just the latest in a string of gambling busts that have taken place this year. Many of the gambling raids have come at the expense of establishments that were running illegal video gambling machines. There have also been some busts at home poker games.
The poker issue has become one of interest to many lawyers around the country. Several of the charges against the poker players have been dropped because judges have ruled that poker is a game of skill, and therefore it is not illegal under state law.
