Four Candidates Split on Casino Decision
The four candidates vying to be Lexington's mayor split sharply on whether they'd support casinos in Lexington, how many they'd allow and where, in response to questions from a student at Tates Creek High School. If Kentucky voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize gambling, Mayor Teresa Isaac would support bringing gambling to Lexington.
Cigar-store owner Charles Martin Jr. would like to build a casino at the Kentucky Horse Park. Attorney Jim Newberry would be in favor of limited games at the Red Mile and Keeneland but not turning Lexington into a mini-Las Vegas. "I love my city too much to blight it with the scourge of gambling," said Farmer, a jewelry store owner. The discussion was part of a mayoral debate at Tates Creek High that was broadcast live on The Dave Baker Show on WLAP-630 AM.
