Tanning Salon Serves As Front For Gambling Operation In Ohio
While the state of Ohio sorts out whether or not they want casinos for four major cities, some people have already began running slot machines. A tanning salon in Barberton, Ohio, was raided and two men were charged with running a gambling house.
The raid took place on Thursday when authorities raided the Midnight Rayz Tanning and Salon. The investigation into the illegal gambling activity had begun less than a month ago, but it did not take long for officers to figure out what was going on.
Among the items seized in the raid were twenty-three gambling machines, and ATM machine, other gambling paraphernalia, and $1,900 in cash. Raymond and Jeffrey Holley were arrested in the raid and charged with the gambling crime.
"It is a little weird that the gambling operation was being run out of a tanning salon," said observer Frank Jewel, "I guess when the cops started catching on to the bars, people had to move their operations elsewhere."
Ohio has been in the middle of a raging gambling argument. A pro-casino group has secured enough signatures to have a casino initiative put on the ballot in November. If approved, it would pave the way for casinos in Columbus, Toledo, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.
Casino gambling has not been something that the people of Ohio have favored in the past. Several attempts to bring casinos to the state have been turned away by voters. This time, however, there is evidence that many people have changed their minds on the issue, and are now more accepting of casino gambling.
