Texas Casino Gambling May Explode With Strong Legislative Support

The state of Texas is not currently a player in the national battle to become the new gambling capital of the US. If the support in legislature for expanded casinos in the state is any indication, Texas may soon become a threat to other states.

Legislation has been proposed and is receiving strong support that would bring seventeen new casinos to Texas. The legislation would authorize slots at racetracks, and also full scale Indian gaming in the state.

"We're within ten percent in the House," said Representative Edmund Kuempel. In order to get an amendment on the ballot for the next election, the measure must receive at least 100 votes in the House. Kuempel is hopeful that they will reach the 100 vote mark.

The House may not be the tough part for supporters of the legislation. The Senate must also approve the measure and it appears as though it will have a difficult time passing in the Senate. The Lt. Governor, David Dewhurst is said to be against expanded gambling.

The plan that is being discussed would be equally fair for all parties involved. Kuempel believes that Indian tribes, casino developers, and state racetracks would all be pleased with the way the Bill is being constructed.

Expanding casino options has become a popular decision by lawmakers around the country. The revenue that is being created is helping with steep budget deficits and the addition of job opportunities is helping local economies.
