Tropicana Casino Being Hurt By Workers Union in New Jersey
A federal judge from the U.S. District Court for New Jersey refused to grant a restraining order for Tropicana Entertainment LLC, the order was sought against the casino workers union, UNITE HERE Local 54, which represents 15,000 workers in Atlantic City.
At issue was the union voicing their concerns over several issues, and the union took great pride in the ruling handed down today.
Local 54 President Bob McDevitt had this to say on the ruling, "No strike clauses are not gag orders. We have a constitutional right to raise issues that are of critical importance to our members, the city and state of New Jersey and to participate in the regulatory process."
On Thursday, the Local was granted participant status in the re licensing hearings for Tropicana which are coming up soon, and that hearing will not be academic as their are several questions to be answered.
As if the news was not bad enough for Tropicana, also this week S&P downgraded the senior secured credit facility of Tropicana to negative.
Tropicana was trying to prevent Local 54 from being involved in the licensing hearings, fearing that they will be exposed of not upholding a "superior, first class facility".
This week, Tropicana also reported that their revenues earnings had decreased 10 percent from their numbers from the third quarter last year, and that one of the terms of its credit facility had been violated.
