UPS Worker Arrested In Illegal Sports Gambling Operation Bust
There has been another illegal gambling bust in the US, but this time it had nothing to do with video gambling machines. Authorities in Sand Lake have arrested two men who are accused of running an illegal sports gambling operation.
One of the men, John F. Dupont, has been identified by police as a UPS worker. Authorities believe that he had been taking bets while on the job, and also at various other times throughout his day.
"He was taking bets on virtually everything that moved," said Charles Sullivan, Senior Investigator in the case, "It's fair to say he would take bets any time and the most opportune time." he last comment was after Sullivan was asked if Dupont had taken bets while at work.
One other man, Peter M. Bukowski,a Selkirk resident, was also arrested. Bukowski is said to be an associate of Dupont. The investigation had been going on into the sports gambling operation for two months.
At the time of the arrests, police seized over $34,000. Much of the money that was seized Dupont had on him at the time of the arrest. The total amount of bets that were taken via the phone and text messages was over $1 million.
It is not uncommon for authorities to start their crackdown of illegal sports betting operations during the football season. The best that Dupont was taking were not limited to football, however. According to police, women's basketball, hockey, and other college sports were all being bet on by Dupont's clientele.
