US Congress Closer To Banning Online Gambling
The US Congress on Thursday took a significant step towards enacting restrictions to prevent Americans from betting on online gambling sites, a move that could threaten the booming internet gambling business.
The House judiciary committee approved legislation that expands existing federal gambling restrictions by making it clear that they apply to internet gambling, and would require US banks to block payments to online gambling sites. It would also require internet service providers in the US to remove links to gambling sites.
The full House is expected to vote on the bill next month, though prospects for the companion legislation that would be required in the Senate are less clear.
