US Internet Gambling Regulation Bill Gets More Co-Sponsors
The United States House Bill H.R.2046 as proposed by Rep Barney Frank in the House Financial Services Committee, meant to legalize and regulate Internet gambling, received three more cosponsors to bring the total now to twenty-two.
Thanks to efforts by CasinoGamblingWeb.com readers, who were prompted to alert their representatives about their desires to legalize internet gambling, Reps Howard L. Berman [CA-28], Bob Filner [CA-51] and James McGovern [MA-3] have signed on to cosponsor HR-2046 which is designed to provide for the licensing of Internet gambling facilities by the Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
This bill was referred to the Committee on Financial Services, and in addition, to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
Frank expressed after the hearing on Friday addressing his Internet gambling regulation bill that he currently does not have enough support to present it on the House floor for a vote. He said he would keep promoting the bill in search of more sponsors and that he has much more support for this legislation now than he had a year ago.
The other 19 cosponsors of the bill to date include the following US Congressional Representatives:
Gary L. Ackerman [NY-5]
Julia Carson [IN-7]
Joseph Crowley [NY-7]
Luis V. Gutierrez [IL-4]
Peter T. King [NY-3]
Jim McDermott [WA-7]
Charlie Melancon [LA-3]
Ed Perlmutter [CO-7]

Shelly Berkley [NV]

Steve Israel [NY-4]
Carolyn McCarthy [NY-4]

Ciro D. Rodriguez [TX-23]

"At times it is important for our representatives in Congress to get a pat on the back," said Gordon Price, an Internet gaming analyst and president of Casino Gambling Web. "Constituents of all the Bill's co-sponsor representatives should take the time to call and thank them for their support and encourage them to speak to other members of Congress not yet signed on to ask them to lend their support, too.
"It is incumbent upon those interested to reach out in every possible manner to urge representatives to join their fellow Americans to regain their freedoms," Price said.
A list of Congressional Representatives can be found here.
In April when Rep. Barney Frank introduced this legislation, he cited that:
"The existing legislation is an inappropriate interference on the personal freedom of Americans and this interference should be undone."
Casino Gambling Web is sponsoring a petition to repeal the UIGEA, which all are encouraged to sign. A member of CGW will give this petition to Rep. Shelly Berkley on June 15 in her Las Vegas office.
