US Postal Workers, Part Of Gambling Ring In New York, Are Arrested
Another branch of the US Government took a publicity hit on Thursday when US postal workers in New York were arrested as part of a sting operation on an illegal lotto gambling operation that was being run at the US postal service.
In all, there were nine defendants arrested on Thursday by federal authorities. Of the nine, some of them are currently employed by the US postal service. This leaves yet another mark on a brach of the government when it comes to illegal gambling.
Recently, there have been officers in the country that have been arrested because of their involvement with illegal organized gambling operations. It shows that when it comes to gambling, people can be involved no matter what they do for a living.
The sting on Thursday was on an operation that authorities claim has been taking place since 2005. Hundreds of people played the illegal lottery game, including Department of Sanitation city workers. Each person played twenty dollars to get into the lottery.
The operation paid winners monthly in excess of $100,000. The numbers that were used came directly from the New York State Lotto drawings. Offices of the Metropolitan Transit Authority were also used for the Lotto operation.
Although only nine people were arrested on Thursday, one had already been in custody on another case relating to this one. There is no word yet on whether that person gave details of the operation that was taking place.
