Video Poker Gambling Machine Plan Popular Among Illinois Bars
Times are tough for business owners in the US. That is why any little thing that can help increase business is being supported by these small business owners. In Illinois, that means jumping on the expanded gambling bandwagon.
Bar owners in the state are supporting a new plan that would legalize video poker machines. Many of the bar owners already offer the machines to their customers, but if they are paying out the winners, they are doing so illegally.
"It would be a big burden off of the bar owners if they could offer these games legally," said observer Tim Boss, "if the economy continues to get worse, I can't see how these bars are going to survive without the video machines."
Boss echoes the sentiments of the bar owners as well. The Bill that has been proposed has already passed the legislature and is just waiting on a signature from Governor Pat Quinn.
Illinois law enforcement have not been following the trend in the US to raid establishments that are carrying the video poker machines. Some of the bar owners that offer the machines are paying out customers, while others are not.
The lawmakers are not as concerned with revenue for the bar owners, but more for the state. If the machines are legalized, the state would benefit by collecting a share of the winnings through taxation.
