Rhode Island Races to Complete Casino Gambling Studies
West Warwick authorities are rapidly completing studies analyzing the impact of a proposed casino ahead of a November referendum.
Rhode Islanders will vote this fall on a constitutional amendment allowing the Narragansett Indian Tribe and its business partner to build a casino at a West Warwick industrial park.
But town authorities say they need to update studies on how a casino would affect the town's economy, roadways and emergency services. Harrah's Entertainment, the tribe's business partner, has already submitted some plans, but town officials call that work inadequate.
Town officials say an updated economic impact report could be released as early as next week. Analysts will soon visit the town to update another report on the proposed casino's need for police and fire services.
