Wheat Ridge Office Of Amateur Poker Tour Raided
The Amateur Poker Tour saw one of it's offices in Wheat Ridge, Colorado earlier this week. Agents went equipped with search warrants to the office, which is located at 9751 West 44th Avenue.
Nobody was arrested in the sting, but the agents did seize documents and records from the Wheat Ridge office. The Colorado Division of Gaming worked with The Colorado Bereau on the investigation.
The main concern for the investigation is a $199 quarterly fee that the company charges for a VIP Gold Card, which entitles the players to different prizes than those players that are playing for free.
Ralph Gagliari, a CBI agent, stated that,"An illegal poker game is one in which players pay a fee to play". Colorado law says that social poker games are legal, however, they become illegal when an organizer or host charges any kind of fee for participation.
The agent went on to say that,"The poker tours are becoming more and more popular, all the tours are not illegal".
There are several tours operating in Colorado, and even though some of them are giving away prizes and not cash, it is still illegal to have anyone pay to play the games.
