Wheels Set In Motion For Lottery Gambling In Nevada
The state of Nevada is considered by many to be the gambling capital of the world. That is why it is understandable that people are confused when they find out the state does not have a lottery.
It is true that casino owners do not want the lottery for fear of competition, but that does not explain the entire picture as to why there is not lottery. Lawmakers, themselves, have long been against the idea.
That is beginning to change, however, and the wheels have been put in motion in the state legislature to bring a state run lottery to Nevada. Representative Paul Aizley, a rookie in the legislature, has proposed a Bill that would create a state lottery.
The people of Nevada should not get overly excited about the prospects of lottery betting just yet. Even if approved this year, the Bill would have to also pass legislators in 2011. Then, voters would have their voices heard in the 2012 election.
The main argument that has been used by casino companies is that the lottery would not create enough revenue or jobs. Ironically, they also oppose the lottery because they feel that it creates problem gambling opportunities for the lower and middle classes.
In recent polls, voters in Nevada have shown that they are in support of creating a state lottery. Nevada is currently one of only eight states that does not have a lottery.
