888 Holdings Soon To Offer Sports Betting to UK Gamblers
Back before the government went and destroyed a multi-billion dollar industry, one of the biggest players in the industry was 888.com, and although their software was not considered the best, or even very good, they still were extremely successful.
The company tried to sell off its site after it abandoned the U.S. market, but other larger companies were scared off by the thought that 888 had debts to the United States that the government would come after legally.
Instead of selling or going under, though, 888 has decided to take a differnet approach to their future. They have decided to open their doors to International citizens and expand their brand to include a sports betting platform.
"We expect to launch (the sportsbook) in the first country by the end of this year or the beginning of next," Gigi Levy told Reuters at an i-Gaming conference.
"The UK is our biggest market but we also have Seville," he added, saying the deal with the sportsbook provider would be for more than a year
888 will concentrate their new sportsbook mainly on horse racing and soccer match betting.
Current speculation is that the U.S will still go after the company for the money they are owed.
The company has decided to take a more aggressive approach to their business and will now be rivals to the same companies that they tried to sell to.
The company has not ruled out that a deal could still be made by the end of the year on their sale.
