American Idol Carly Smithson Eliminated, Brooke White Saved
At this stage of the American Idol competition, nothing is surprising when it comes to the results show. On Wednesday night, the closest thing to a surprise the show can offer happened, Carly Smithson was eliminated from the competition.
The night started with the two favorites, David Archuleta and David Cook, both being sent to safety by host Ryan Seacrest. That left only four contestants waiting to find out their fate.
Syesha Mercado and Brooke White were next, and one of the surprising points of the night occurred. White, who had to restart the night before because of forgetting the lyrics, was safe. Mercado was sent to the bottom two.
Jason Castro and Carly Smithson were the final two out to the stage. Smithson had received praise from the judges for her performance, but it was not enough to keep her out of the bottom two. Castro was safe.
In the end, it came down to Mercado and Smithson. Mercado would be safe for another week, and Smithson would be eliminated from the show.
Next week, Neil Diamond is set to be the mentor to the final five contestants. With Smithson out, it appears even more clear that Archuleta and Cook are heading towards a showdown in the finale.
