AOL Moves to Manhattan to be Closer to Advertisers
AOL, who currently runs an online sportsbook aimed at UK citizens, is moving their main headquarters from Virginia, to Manhattan.
"Moving out of Virginia to New York is a signal that historically the company has been one way but is now evolving into something else," Michael Nathanson, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. in New York, said in an interview.
The question is what is this new future of AOL? They say that they have big advertisers who work from New York, and therefore they need to be closer to those companies in order maintain a high level of correspondence. They also claim they are moving to the heart of the country in order to be more representative of their 'America' online theme.
AOL, having already started a UK online casino, is expected to apply and receive a license for online gaming should America decide to go by the way of regulation in the future.
No AOL representative would respond to the question of whether or not they will enter the US gaming market should lawmakers reverse the current ban on Internet gambling, but analysts believe that is exactly where the mass online media company is heading, as signified by this move to NYC.
