British Wagering Service Bans US Players
Top British wagering service William Hill, www.williamhill.com, announced today they will no longer take bets from United States players. Their prudent decision comes as a surprise to most industry insiders because William Hill had already banned US players from their sportsbook.
Today's move will block US players from all types of wagering with their company including poker, slots, roulette, etc. William Hill was founded in 1934, well before the days of internet gambling. They specialize in sportsbooks, poker, and various casino games.
CEO David Harding reassured London investors today by saying the move will not impact their bottom line.
According to Harding, "US wagers encompass only 0.1% of our total business".
"Given the debate in the US Senate about changes to online gambling, this is the best course of action for us to take".
Industry analysts assume the move is temporary, at least until the US market stabalizes. Other UK online gambling companies have not been so willing to refuse Americans. Sporting Bet Plc.'s new CEO mentioned in a recent interview that his company is planning to step up efforts to attract American gamblers.
