China's Biggest Lottery Winner Picks Up Check In Disguise
Lottery winners do many different things to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Some have family members cash the tickets, while others wait months before heading to pick up their prize.
The man from China who just won the biggest sports lottery gambling prize ever in the country, showed up at the headquarters to pick up his check in disguise. He was wearing a wig, hat, sunglasses, and mask.
He was not the only one being cautious about his winnings. The lottery center where he arrived gave him a secret passage when he arrived. They also contacted police, the bank, and municipal notaries shortly after he showed up.
Lao Yang told reporters he was taking the highest of precautions. He admitted to reporters that not even his wife knew that he had won the lottery. He plans on investing the money into a business.
Yang won $9.42 million as the top prize. That figure was after taxes were taken out. Yang had a police escort to his bank where he signed the check and deposited it into his account. A small ceremony was held by the facility where he cashed the ticket.
With increasing crime against winners of lotteries around the world, more and more winners are taking precautions before cashing their winning tickets.
