Colleges Helping Problem Gambling Students Through Various Programs
The rise of the Poker phenomenon around the World has done many good things for individual states in the U.S., many of which receive millions of dollars in tax money from casinos.
Only problem is, as the poker craze grows, so does the problems on college campuses, where students who already have many addictive vices to turn to, are having a problem avoiding the temptation of gambling.
Gambling is like a drug, once a person becomes involved or tries it once, the chances are good that it could become a problem, and now colleges around the country are implementing programs to help students in need.
The University of Missouri at Colombia, for example, has recently started a program called Keeping The Score, which educates students on the dangers facing them with gambling, and offers help to overcome the addiction.
Studies have indicated that over 85% of college students gamble in one form or another, and the main outlets are private card games, online, or at casinos.
student gambling is a problem because many students receive large amounts of financial aid or money from their parents, which leaves them spending cash to use while gambling.
Missouri is not the only college across the country to implement a plan as many Universities have now joined in the fight to educate as many students as possible about the potential dangers of gambling.
